Bilaspur: In a shocking incident on Tuesday night around 9:00 PM, unidentified assailants attacked jeweller Santosh Tiwari on Telephone Exchange Road in Rajkishore Nagar and fled with his car along with gold and silver ornaments kept inside. The victim sustained head injuries after being allegedly hit with a hammer and the butt of a gun. He has been admitted to a private hospital for treatment.
Attacked While Returning Home

According to information, Santosh Tiwari owns a jewellery shop named Maa Mahalakshmi Jewellers at Rajkishore Nagar Chowk. As usual, he was returning home after closing his shop, carrying jewellery in his maroon Renault car (registration number CG 10 AH 7707). On the way, occupants of a car and a Passion Pro motorcycle allegedly followed and intercepted him.
Gun Failed to Fire During Scuffle

The attackers reportedly began assaulting him and attempted to rob him. Tiwari resisted, leading to a scuffle. During the struggle, the assailants’ pistol did not fire, and its magazine along with some live cartridges fell at the scene. Police later recovered these from the spot.
Assaulted With Hammer, Vehicle Snatched

When resistance intensified, the accused allegedly struck him on the head with a hammer and the butt of the gun, injuring him. They then fled with his car containing gold and silver ornaments. In a hurry, the accused left behind their own car (CG 10 BJ 8147) and motorcycle (CG 10 P 0331) at the scene.
Stolen Vehicles Suspected
Police suspect that the vehicles abandoned by the accused may be stolen, which could explain why they left them behind. Preliminary investigation suggests that the jeweller may have been under surveillance and the robbery was pre-planned.
Investigation Underway
The incident created panic in the area. Police officials rushed to the spot, conducted a preliminary inspection, and set up checkpoints in nearby areas. CCTV footage from surrounding locations is being examined to trace the culprits.
