The dignitaries lauded the officer’s scholarly work, remarking that it enriches understanding of India’s role in promoting global peace and will serve as an insightful resource for policymakers and scholars alike.

From Peacekeeping to Peacebuilding — A New Paradigm of Global Peace

The book delves into the evolution of the United Nations’ peace efforts in the post–Cold War world, highlighting the shift from traditional Peacekeeping and Peacemaking towards the more comprehensive and long-term concept of Peacebuilding. Dr. Singh critically examines how the UN Peacebuilding Commission has been instrumental in assisting war-torn and conflict-affected nations to rebuild governance systems, strengthen democratic institutions, and foster reconciliation among communities.

Through both theoretical frameworks and on-ground evaluations, the author explores the transformation of peace operations into multifaceted missions that integrate political, social, and developmental dimensions.

India’s Distinguished Role in UN Peace Missions

The book also brings into focus India’s proud legacy as one of the largest contributors to UN peacekeeping. Since 1950, India has participated in 49 UN missions, deploying around 200,000 soldiers and police personnel in some of the most challenging conflict zones. Indian officers have commanded missions and earned global respect for their professionalism, neutrality, and humanitarian approach.

Dr. Singh’s analysis underscores how India’s peacekeeping experiences reflect the country’s long-standing commitment to the UN Charter and its belief in cooperative global security.

Peacebuilding Lessons for Internal Stability

While the book primarily focuses on international efforts, it also reflects on the relevance of peacebuilding principles for India’s internal context. Sustainable peace, Dr. Singh argues, requires not only cessation of violence but also inclusive governance, community participation, social rehabilitation, and institutional resilience. His insights make the book highly pertinent for administrators and policymakers dealing with internal conflict resolution.

Academic Excellence and Intellectual Depth

Dr. Santosh Singh holds a Ph.D. from Hemchand Yadav University, Durg, an M.Phil. in International Relations from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, and an M.A. in Political Science from Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi).
His M.Phil dissertation, “Participation of Developing Countries in the United Nations Security Council,” laid the foundation for his continued research in international governance and global peace mechanisms.

His numerous research papers have appeared in reputed national and international journals. Dr. Singh believes that “Peace is not merely the absence of war, but the presence of justice, equity, and sustainable development” — a philosophy that forms the intellectual core of his book.

A Scholarly Resource for Policy and Academia

Published by Manak Publications, a reputed name in academic and policy literature, “United Nations Peacebuilding Efforts” is expected to serve as a key reference for students, diplomats, defence analysts, and scholars of international relations.

With its blend of empirical research, theoretical insight, and policy relevance, the book stands as an important Indian contribution to global peace discourse — emerging from the pen of a police officer who combines field experience with deep academic understanding.
